A healthy homemade pumpkin dog treat for autumn
Nothing says October quite like pumpkin season! These homemade Pumpkin Patch Dog Biscuits combine pumpkin, carrot and oats to create a crunchy, naturally colourful autumn dog treat. Pumpkin is a source of fibre and beta-carotene, while carrot adds even more natural goodness without the need for added sugar.
Made with 100% vegan, dog-friendly ingredients, these healthy pumpkin dog treats are also naturally low in fat, making them a lovely alternative to richer homemade dog biscuits.
Ingredients
- 1 cup plain pumpkin purée
- 1 medium carrot, finely grated
- 2 cups oat flour
- 2 tbsp rolled oats
- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
- 2–4 tbsp water, as needed
Important: Use plain pumpkin purée, not sweetened or spiced pumpkin pie filling.
Method
- Preheat your oven to 170°C / 150°C fan and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Add the pumpkin purée and grated carrot to a large bowl and mix together.
- Stir in the ground flaxseed and rolled oats.
- Gradually add the oat flour, mixing until a firm dough begins to form.
- If the mixture feels too dry, add water one tablespoon at a time.
- Lightly dust your worktop with oat flour and roll the dough to approximately 5mm thick.
- Cut into autumn shapes such as pumpkins, leaves or acorns.
- Transfer to your prepared tray.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, turning the tray halfway through.
- For crunchier biscuits, switch off the oven and leave them inside for another 15–20 minutes with the door slightly open.
- Cool completely before serving.
