Homemade Dog Gummy Bears (Healthy, Vegan & Easy!)

Looking for a healthy homemade dog treat recipe your pup will love? These DIY dog gummy bears are made with just 3 simple, natural ingredients and are completely free from artificial colours, sweeteners, and preservatives.

Perfect for dogs with allergies, picky eaters, or owners who want to know exactly what's going into their pet's snacks. Made using agar agar (a vegan gelatin alternative), this easy dog treat recipe is quick to prepare and can be customised with your dog's favourite fruit flavour.

Whether you're searching for homemade dog treats UK, natural dog snacks, or vegan dog gummy bears, this recipe ticks every box. All you need is a silicone gummy bear mould (or a standard ice cube tray!) and you're good to go.

Ingredients

  • 1 cups fruit juice or puree (a baby food fruit pouch works great)
  • 2 teaspoons agar agar powder (or 4 tsp if using flakes)
  • 1 tablespoons maple syrup or agave syrup (optional)

Steps

1. Heat the mixture: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cups fruit juice or puree (a baby food fruit pouch works great) and 2 teaspoons agar agar powder (or 4 tsp if using flakes). Heat over a medium heat and bring to the boil.
2. Boil and stir: Once boiling, continue to stir continuously for 1 minute, then remove from the heat.
3. Cool the mixture: Allow the mixture to cool for 5 minutes before handling.
4. Fill the mould: Using a liquid dropper, carefully transfer the mixture into your silicone gummy bear mould or ice cube tray.
5. Set in the fridge: Leave to set for 20 minutes. Once firm, gently remove the gummy bears from the mould and transfer to an airtight container.

Notes

Storage: These homemade dog gummy bears can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, making them ideal for batch-prepping healthy dog treats for the week ahead. Keep them in a sealed container to maintain freshness.

Flavour ideas: Try apple, mango, watermelon, or blueberry puree, all safe and dog-friendly fruit options. Always check that your chosen juice or puree contains no added sugar, artificial sweeteners (especially xylitol, which is toxic to dogs), or citrus fruits.

No mould? No problem! An ice cube tray works just as well for making homemade frozen or gelled dog treats at home.
